This work marks the first instalment of an ongoing series exploring contemporary Milan through the prism of early 20th-century Italian Futurism. The visual narrative is punctuated by excerpts from F.T. Marinetti’s seminal Destruction of Syntax—Imagination without strings—Words-in-Freedom. By viewing the city through this lens, a compelling paradox emerges: while the Futurist spirit of radical innovation persists, it remains tethered to a complex, almost stagnant heritage. Milan today resonates with that same pioneering energy, yet it exists in a state of suspended animation—innovative in its aspirations, yet anchored by the shadows of its own historical contradictions.
